And apparently the 2017 ZL1 did it in 7:23.77.

When it comes to comparing performance cars, there is nothing more ridiculous than discussing the Nurburgring lap time / Cost ratio.

Perhaps that’s how a blind person would choose between them. My well functioning eyes are sticking with the Pony.

It is a pretty good tell of how well-engineered a performance car is.

While I agree, it still counts for something. As far as cost, I'm sure they're about the same?

Drove a GT350, much preferred my SS. But I can understand why people would prefer the Mustang. They got rid of Guard Green for 2017 though ):

I don't necessarily, just a good comparison for some vehicles. Even though most the people driving the cars won't be able to drive them to their capabilities.

A Trabant can lap the ring in 7:32:19

7 hours 32 minutes 19 seconds :p

I’ll need to see that 7:23 - the outgoing ZL1 7:41 was simply amazing and on the very ragged edge. But I suppose the 2017 is a bit lighter and aero is a little better so maybe...

All I want in life is a British racing green car. I'm considering looking into having my car wrapped in BRG over the winter. It's already got the gold wheels.

Yeah it’s not official, just a lot of murmuring on the internet today about it. This new gen is remarkable compared to the last one. And they seemed to have made the 2017 ZL1 more for track duty than the last one. We still haven't even seen the Z/28 yet.

To be fair, the GT350R time was never officially announced or anything. It was just another rumor that I think originated from a certain clickbait site. That and we’ve never seen a full production R at the ring, just some prototypes that could be either faster or slower. This has been irking me since the time was “leaked.”

That’s stupid fast if real though. Isn’t that near ZR1 fast isn’t it?

It stopped becoming relevant around about the time that the second gen CTS-V beat the M5's time. Weird, huh?

As a general rule of thumb: more grip = faster. Tires and brakes are pretty much everything.

I’ve heard the new 991 Carrera S does 7:30 around the Nürburgring when equipped with the new P Zero N1 tires. In fact a reputable german performance car magazine has that glorious Test where they would run a car around the short layout of hockenheim and well the Nordschleife, always driven by the same guy, which is just great for comparing shit. The 991.2 Carrera S did a 7:34 on the Nordschleife, same time as the 991.1 Turbo S, LFA Nürburgring Edition, R8 GT and slightly faster than the SLS Black Series, GT-R and McLaren 650s did driven by the same guy. Not bad for only 423hp (they also measure hp output among other things, Civic Type-R managed to be 34hp down on Honda’s claim btw) and a lack of fancy aero. BECAUSE SUPER HIGH GRIP TIRES

Or you could buy a 2010 Viper ACR that lapped the ring in 7:12 for about the same price as one of those looks like a painfully common pedestrian base model pony cars.

Whelp 640/640 hp/tq are pretty big numbers. But a lot for 2 tires regardless. What does a z06/7 do around the ring? That’s 9 seconds faster than the gt350 with 120 more hp and probably 250 more tq. It’s crazy what it takes to go faster. Wonder what your ss would do the way it was delivered? Our sts?

What’s the buzz on the z28 btw? Punched out stingray motor to 400+ ci? Or blown?

Edit: no z07 times but two non official times of 6:58.xx and I think 7:11.xx so who knows. But some really impressive times happening as of late.

That’s as may be, and yes the prices are out of control, but the ZL1 is not powered by an engine that also plays the song of my people.

I been trying to tell people. The GT350 isn’t really that great. The regular one gets beaten in most categories by a regular Camaro SS. And the R is just fodder for the ZL1.

I’d like to see an SS time around the ring for comparisons sake. If these numbers are true it’s over 20 seconds faster than the last gen and 10 seconds faster than the previous Z/28. I assume we’ll see a bigger discrepancy in power between the Z/28 & ZL1 6th gen than the 5th gen but you'd have to think the Z/28 should be capable of similar times?
